Jest karnawał, zatem powinien pojawić się i bal karnawałowy. Ten, na którym byliśmy w połowie stycznia był szczególny, bo to doroczny bal karnawałowy, który odbywa się w Wielkiej Auli Politechniki Warszawskiej. Karnawał w Auli, czyli Karnavauli. Co roku organizowany w innym klimacie. Tematem przewodnim tegorocznej edycji był Moulin Rouge, czyli najsłynniejszy paryski kabaret.
It is carnival, and therefore should be a carnival ball. The one we took part in was in the middle of January. It was special, because it’s annual carnival ball, which is held in the Great Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology. Held every year in different theme. The theme of this year’s edition was the Moulin Rouge, which is the most famous Parisian cabaret.
Moulin Rouge, czyli Czerwony (nie różowy!) Młyn otwarto 5 października 1889, a znajduje się w dzielnicy czerwonych latarni niedaleko Montmartre. Na dachu tego przybytku znajduje się gigantyczny czerwony młyn, który turyści namiętnie fotografują. Bo wizyta w pobliżu Moulin Rouge (progu tego przybytku raczej nie przestępują) nadaje pikanterii ich paryskiej wycieczce z przewodnikiem.
O Moulin Rouge zrobiło się głośno w 2001 w kontekście filmu Baza Luhrmanna Moulin Rouge! z Nicole Kidman, który co nieco odsłonił kulisy światka kurtyzan, piosenkarek, tancerek i nocnych klubów Paryża. O ile kreacja Kidman była świetna, występy perfekcyjne, a jej sceniczne kostiumy wspaniałe – błyszczące od cekinów i rozedrgane od wirujących frędzli i piór, mi jednak na myśl o kabarecie pod Czerwonym Młynem przed oczyma stają tancerki z końca XIX w. tańczące kankana w falbaniastych – najlepiej czerwono-czarnych – spódnicach rodem z obrazów Lautreca. I pewnie nie tylko mnie, bo przecież Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec był chyba najbardziej związanym z kabaretem artystą – to jego rysunki pojawiały się na plakatach reklamujących show w Moulin Rouge.
Moulin Rouge, i.e., Red ( not pink ! ) Mill opened on Oct. 5, 1889 , and is located in the red light district near Montmartre. On its roof is placed a giant red mill that tourists passionately photograph. Because being in fron tof the Moulin Rouge fassade (as tourists rather do not step inside), gives some spicy taste to their Paris trip.
About the Moulin Rouge was loud in 2001, in the context of the Baz Luhrmann’s movie entitled Moulin Rouge! that unveiled a little bit the world of courtesans, singers, dancers and nightlife of Paris. Though the creation of Kidman was great, she did some perfect performances and her stage costumes were fabulous – shiny sequins and shimmering from the spinning tassels and feathers, when I think of cabaret at the Red Mill in front of the eyes appear the dancers from the late nineteenth century dancing the cancan in flounced red and black skirts, just like the ones on Lautrec’s paintings. And probably not just me, because Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was perhaps most associated with the cabaret artist – and his drawings appeared on posters advertising the shows at the Moulin Rouge.

Zatem Moulin Rouge jako temat przewodni balu to nie taka łatwa sprawa, jeśli chodzi o dobór odpowiedniego stroju. Mogą to być i cekinowe sukieneczki, i falbaniaste suknie, koronki, siatkowe rajstopy – kabaretki, cylindry, toczki i pióra. Jak ja wybrnęłam z sytuacji?
Znacie moje zamiłowanie do gorsetów, dlatego z chęcią skorzystałam z okazji by wskoczyć w jeden z nich. Do tego czarna suknia (którą kupiłam wieki temu) i dosyć szczególne dodatki – czarna połyskująca kolia, brosza wysadzana czerwonymi dżetami, toczek z tiulową woalką i piórami, długie czarne rękawiczki i najbardziej kabaretowy gadżet – wściekle czerwone boa z piór. Mój luby również stanął na wysokości zadania – założył szykowny cylinder plus czerwony (rouge) krawat! Jaki jest efekt finalny – oceńcie sami!
Thus, the Moulin Rouge as the theme is not an easy task when it comes to choosing the right outfit. This can be, and sequined dresses, and ruffled dresses, lace, fishnet tights, cylinders, toques and feathers. How did I deal with the situation?
You know my passion for corsets, so I simply took the opportunity to jump in one of them. A long black dress (which I bought ages ago) and quite special accessories – black shiny necklace, brooch encrusted with red glitter stones, toque with a tulle veil and feathers, long black gloves and most cabaret-like gadget – deep red feather boa. My beloved also rose to the occasion – he put on a posh cylinder plus red (rouge) tie! What is the final effect – judge it yourself!
